Moradabad: A third-year engineering diploma student of Teerthanker Mahaveer University here was Tuesday found dead in his hotel room under mysterious circumstances.
According to police sources, Shoib Ahmad (20), a resident of Aligarh, was found lying in his hostel room and taken to the varsity hospital where he was declared dead. He was a student of Mechanical Engineering department.

Moradabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashutosh said that the university authorities had claimed that the student might have died due to drug overdose.

His parents and college friends, however, rejected the university authorities` claim and said Shoib never touched drugs. He did not even smoke or drink, they added.

The deceased`s father, a retired Army personnel, said he had spoken to his son over phone around 8.30 PM yesterday. "He sounded very happy to return home within a month after the completion of his course," the father said.

"The body has been sent for a post-mortem. An inquiry will be ordered to find out is there is any foul play," the SSP said.

Around a year ago, a first-year MBBS student of the university was also found dead under mysterious circumstances. Later an inquiry revealed that the student hailing from Haryana was strangulated to death and a CBI probe is on into the murder.
