Mistry blames BJP, RSS for BHU violence

Launching a scathing attack on BJP and RSS over the violence in Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Congress on Monday said the incident reflected "their character".

Varanasi: Launching a scathing attack on BJP and RSS over the violence in Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Congress on Monday said the incident reflected "their character".

Blaming the RSS for the two-day violence in the varsity campus, Congress general secretary Madhusudan Mistry said BJP will rule in only such ways where the country will witness violence everywhere.

"This (BHU violence) shows the character of BJP. They will rule the government in only such ways, where the country will witness violence everywhere around it. The RSS has been behind the two-day largescale violence in BHU, the same way it was involved in earlier ones," he said, addressing party workers during a meeting to discuss plans to strengthen the party base in the region.

"The government is being run with a thinking that the party and RSS should be made stronger in the country. They don't care about whether it is right or wrong before their party's personal interest," he said.

"If any other partymen or the Congress are doing some good, this government will not let that work to be done because they feel that it causes?a problem for them. They won't allow the work of our people under their rule," he said.

Mistry also alleged that there was "no one in the ruling dispensation to take independent decisions as decisions are only taken in order to make BJP and RSS stronger".

At least three dozen students were arrested by Uttar Pradesh police few days back, and five hostels of the BHU had to be vacated after violence broke out in the sprawling campus on Thursday over the demand to hold students' union elections.

Mistry said senior party leader P L Punia had visited BHU students in jail and hospital and Congress will raise the issue of students union election in Parliament.
