Dehradun: At least four people are feared dead after a cloudburst in Uttarakhand`s Tehri district on Thursday.

As per initial reports, six-eight houses were washed away and several others were flattened in the Ghansali block of the district, 60 kilometres from the district headquarters New Tehri town. Search and rescue operations are underway even as reports suggested that the toll could rise.

The hill state, popular with tourists for the Chard Dham Yatra, is battling heavy rains and landslides since the start of the monsoon season this year. This comes after the deadly devastation that hit the state last June that left thousands dead.

Yesterday, a massive landslide had flattened Malin village in Pune. Around 20 people are confirmed dead but the toll may rise.
