Mumbai: Senior CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat on Monday lashed out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her silence on the recent spate of infant deaths in the state's hospitals.

"When these deaths occurred two years ago the present Chief Minister left no stone unturned to turn it into a political issue. Therefore, her silence today is all the more deafening," she told reporters here.

A total of 36 infant deaths have been reported at the BC Roy Children's Hospital in Kolkata and the Burdwan Medical College in the past few days.

Mamata di has just come to power and she has so many issues to be handled ,like Maoist issue, darjeeling issue ,north bengal issues ,industry set up in bengal issues..and still singlehandedly this greta lady is doing so .35 years of gross negligenc eby CPIM and their local gundas (mafias)have damaged the state totally. One cannot expect a magical recovery of all the systems overnight...give her minimum 5-10 years to reform the process. One cannot be so illogical to understand that its not only one hospital but the entirehealth care system ,infrastructure is at jeopardy in bengal .So phase by phase reform is need of the day .
