Kolkata: Union Finance Minister Pranab
Mukherjee on Saturday condoled the death of Gayatri Devi, mother of
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
"I knew Gayatri Devi personally. I know how important
your mother was to you. I have no words to console you. I and
my family stand by you in this time of grief. I hope God will
help you overcome your sorrow. Do let me know if you need any
help," Mukherjee said in his condolence message to Banerjee.
81-year-old Devi, who passed away today, was admitted to
the SSKM hospital on November 25. She was suffering from
old-age related ailments and had been on life support system.
Mukherjee had been here on December 3 to visit Gayatri
Devi at the hospital.
Left Front chairman Biman Bose, Leader of the Opposition
in the Assembly Surjya Kanta Mishra, Forward Bloc state
secretary Ashok Ghosh and senior RSP leader Kshiti Goswami
visited Banerjee at her residence to offer their condolences.
