Beijing: Chinese defense ministry reiterated its firm stand on Diaoyu Islands at a press conference on Thursday in the capital Beijing.
"Diaoyu Islands are an inherent part of Chinese territory. And Chinese army is fully capable of safeguarding the Diaoyu Islands," ministry spokesman Yang Yujun said in response to the U.S. president`s comment of "Diaoyu Islands falling within the scope of Article 5 of the US-Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security" a day earlier. "We don`t need to bother other countries to offer the so-called security and protection over the islands. Some people in Japan always tend to hype up this issue, but in fact they`re just making a big fuss out of something only they`d like to believe," said Yang. "We`ll keep an eye on the the possible actions of the Japanese military, and the Chinese army will continue with its combat readiness patrol and military drills in the related waters," said Yang Yujun. Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang also denied the U.S.-Japan alliance`s Diaoyu Islands bearing on Wednesday at the daily press conference.
