A child-carer has been arrested in the US for allegedly beating a baby girl to death on her first birthday.

London: A child-carer has been arrested in the US for allegedly beating a baby girl to death on her first birthday.
The baby died of "massive swelling" as a result of being attacked, the Cambridge District Court heard.
Irish nanny Aisling McCarthy Brady, 34, was arrested in Boston, US, Monday, five days after Rehma Sabir passed away in hospital, The Sun reported.

Prosecutors say the infant was breathing but unconscious when the au pair called the police.

Sabir was brought to Boston Children`s Hospital with head injuries, bleeding in the eyes, swelling of the brain and multiple healing bone fractures. She was pronounced dead last Wednesday.

McCarthy Brady, reported to be living illegally in the US, appeared in court Tuesday accused of assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury.

Prosecutors say they expect to bring a murder charge once a post mortem is completed.

McCarthy Brady, held on 375,000 euros (over $500,000) bail, however, denies the charge.
