Brussels: The NATO defence ministers Wednesday endorsed a political framework for a new training mission in Afghanistan after 2014, Xinhua reported.
The current NATO combat mission in the country will end in 2014. "This (the framework) will guide our military experts as they take the planning process forward," NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said. "I expect us to agree on a detailed outline early next year, and to complete the plan well before the end of 2013," he said. It is still too early to decide the size of NATO troops in the new mission, which will largely depend on the security situation in Afghanistan by that time, he after the end of a two-day meet of the defence ministers in Brussels.
