Olympics 2012: Cycling legend Hoy slams French ‘cheating’ claims after Team GB overrides at Games

London: British cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy has slammed the French for accusing Team GB of cheating during the latter’s overriding performance at the ongoing London Olympics, which saw them win seven out of ten cycling events.
Hoy collected the sixth Olympic gold of his unbelievable career when he stormed to victory in the men’s keirin on Tuesday, but the celebrations were soured on Wednesday when a leading French sports paper asked: “Are the British cycling performances stained by cheating?”
French team director Isabelle Gautheron has also hinted that Britain’s success in cycling is down to illegal technology rather than the dominance of our riders, but a furious Hoy rejected any such notion. “If other teams want to progress they should look in the mirror and think about what they are doing wrong. They can’t keep looking at what we are doing. They should be thinking about their own preparations and the way they perform,” The Sun quoted Hoy, as saying. “It is difficult for any team when you work for four years and then you get destroyed by another country. I know it is demoralising because it has happened to us in other years,” he added. “But there is nothing we do in Britain that is massively different to anyone else. If someone else wants to do what we are doing, feel free. It is just that everyone in our team tries to be the best in the world,” he said. ANI
