New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday advanced the date for Assembly Election in Mizoram to November 25 from December 04. As per the revised schedule for Mizoram polls, counting will now take place on December 09 instead of December 08. State Joint Chief Electoral Officer H Lalengmawia said that as per ECI`s new schedule, notification for the election would be issued on November 01, last date of filing nomination is November 08, scrutiny of nominations will be held on November 09 and last date of withdrawal of candidature is November 11. Political parties, NGOs and religious organisations had requested for a change in the date for polls to elect the 40-member State Assembly. The earlier dates of polling and counting of votes would have coincided with the Presbyterian Church`s highest decision-making conference - the Synod, which is to be held during December 03 to December 08. The counting day earlier fell on Sunday, a sacred day for Christians.
