New Delhi: When 'sanskari' Pahlaj Nihalani was replaced by Prasoon Joshi, B-Towners couldn't contain their happiness. 

Now, the controversial chairperson of The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII ), Gajendra Chauhan has been replaced by Bollywood actor Anupam Kher.

Anupam Kher is a well known face in Bollywood who is much respected and admired.

He was born in Shimla on March 7, 1955 and grew up in a Pandit family. Educated from D.A.V. School, Shimla, Kher had a modest upbringing.

He made his debut in Bollywood with 1971 film Tiger Sixteen in which he played the role of Mr. Prem. 

Since his debut, the much talented actor has starred in a number of hit films including- Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, A Wednesday, Special 26, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Mohabbatein, Ram Lakhan, Darr, Bride and Prejudice, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, and the recent Toilet: Ek Prem Katha to name a few.

Apart from films, Kher has appeared in a number of plays, and television shows. He hosted one of the most popular television talk shows, The Anupam Kher Show - Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai.

He was also the chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification and the National School of Drama.

Anupam Kher is husband to the beautiful and ever entertaining, Kirron Kher whom he married in the year 1985. The couple have no children.
