Gurmeet Ram Rahim case: Kiku Sharda and Twinkle Khanna’s tweets about ‘MSG’ are unmissable

Mumbai: Actor Kiku Sharda was sent to 14-days judicial custody for mimicking Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan last year. But a lot has changed now for the Baba, who has been convicted in a 15-year-old rape case and awarded 20 years in jail by a CBI court on Monday.

The Dera Chief was convicted in the case on Friday and soon reactions started pouring in. Twinkle Khanna, wife of superstar Akshay Kumar, who is an author and columnist too had penned a piece on Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for TOI. In the blog titled ‘When the Love Charger ran out of battery’, Twinkle had mentioned Kiku, who had been taken into judicial custody for ‘hurting the sentiments’ of Dera followers.

Here’s an excerpt from Twinkle’s blog – “Anyway, all this monkey business reminds me of a certain cheeky monkey and old colleague, Kiku Sharda who was jailed for mimicking the Love Charger. I think he should immediately go to the nearest Chinese restaurant to celebrate, order a beer and tell the waiter, ‘I don’t want any monosodium glutamate in my Schezwan chicken, you people should lock away your MSG too.”

Sharda responded to the humorous reference by posting a picture with a caption – “Enjoying a peaceful Chinese meal with no monosodium glutamate @mrsfunnybones @priyankasharda3.”

Twinkle, who is known for her sense of humour responded by tweeting: “Hahaha! And life moves on with its tongue firmly in its cheek:) (sic).”

For the uninitiated, Kiku was arrested for mimicking Ram Rahim in 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' episode aired on December 27, 2015.

This episode had Sharda mimic the Dera Sacha Saudahead, something which didn't go down too well with his followers, leading them to file a police case against the actor.

The actor was booked under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for outraging religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief.

Kiku, on the very next day of the episode, wrote an apology on his twitter handle saying ,"Doston the act on TV was not to hurt anyone's feelings. My apologies to @Gurmeetramrahim ji and his followers. Let's spread happiness."
