Jaya Verma Sinha has taken charge as the first woman CEO and Chairperson of the Railway Board creating history. Assuming this role, Sinha has become the first female to sit at the apex of the decision-making body of the Indian transporter in 166 years. She has been appointed in the role considering her history as one of the seasoned officers who has accumulated experience working on various posts in the behemoth organisation.

Before being appointed as the CEO, Sinha played her part in multiple posts in the Indian Railways. She joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in 1988. Following her joining, she kept ascending the ladders and in her 35 years of working with the Indian Railways has served on diverse verticals including operations, IT, commercial, and vigilance. Before taking on the mantle of the CEO of the Railway Board, she was assigned the post of Additional Member of the Traffic Transportation, Railway Board.

Besides, Jaya Kumar Sinha has also been the Principal Chief Commercial manager of Northern Railway and the Division Railway Manager of Sealdah Division. Furthermore, she has also been the Railway Advisor at the High Commission of India in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is to be noted that the famous Maitri Express operated between Kolkata to Dhaka began its services during her time in Dhaka.
