BCCI wants fit players for Bangladesh tour, asks team to undergo fitness test

New Delhi: It seems that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to send a fully fit squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh.

This time, each selected player has to undergo a fitness test before the Bangladesh series, starting June 10, according to a report published in the Indian Express.

"We've seen so many players break down mid-tour in the recent past. We want to ensure this doesn't happen," BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur told the newspaper.

The fitness test will take place on 6 June, a day after the squad assembles in Kolkata. The lone Test will be followed by three ODIs (18, 21 and 24 June).

It means, this time around, it won't just be the players carrying niggles going through a fitness test but everyone in the squad will have to prove the fitness.

Anurag also gave fair reason behind the newly adopted approach as he said: "We've seen so many players break down mid-tour in the recent past. We want to ensure this doesn't happen."

In last tour to Australia, Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned home mid-way to recover from shoulder and ankle injuries respectively.

One can say that the BCCI is learning from its past mistakes and is quite pro-active with its approach.
