Colombo Test: Statistical highlights

Colombo: Statistical highlights of the second cricket Test between Indian and Sri Lanka after the fifth and final day`s play on Friday.

  • The recently concluded Colombo Test has provided the 15th instance of a drawn game involving India and Sri Lanka.
  • India have won 13 and lost 6 out of 34 played – success per cent 38.23 for India and 17.64 for Sri Lanka.
  • India (707) have recorded their highest total on foreign soil, beating the 705 for seven wickets declared against Australia at Sydney in 2003-04.
  • India`s aforesaid total is their second best in Tests - the highest being the 726 for 9 wickets declared against Sri Lanka at Mumbai last year.
  • India, for the first time in an overseas Test, have taken 225.2 overs to record the aforesaid total.
  • Kumar Sangakkara (219 & unbeaten 42) has recorded his best performance in a Test series against India, aggregating 364 (ave.182.00) in three innings.
  • Sangakkara`s runs` tally of 261 (219 + 42 not out) is the highest by a Sri Lankan skipper in a Test match against India.
  • Sangakkara has received the Man of the Match award for the 11th time in Tests - his second against India.
  • Harbhajan Singh, with Tharanga Paranavitana`s wicket, has completed his 25 wickets against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka in 9 Tests at 46.92 runs apiece. His tally is the second best for India in Sri Lanka. Anil Kumble had captured 30 (ave.44.63) wickets in 9 Tests.
  • Paranavitana`s runs` tally of 268 at an average of 89.33 in the series is exceeded only by Kumar Sangakkara (364) and Sachin Tendulkar (295).
  • The Sri Lanka opening pair, for the first time in two consecutive Tests of the series, have recorded partnerships of 50 or more in each innings against India - 55 and 96 (unbroken) at Galle followed by 99 & 50 at Colombo (SSC).
  • Ajantha Mendis has bowled 63 overs - the most by him in a Test innings, obliterating the 59 overs bowled against Pakistan at Karachi in 2009.
  • In India`s total of 707, Suraj Randiv has conceded 222 runs - the most by any bowler in his debut innings, surpassing Australia`s Jason Krejza`s tally. Krejza had conceded 215 runs (43.5-1-215-8) in India`s total of 441 at Nagpur in 2008.
  • Randiv has conceded 222 runs - the second worst by a Sri Lankan bowler against India. Rangana Herath had figures of 53.3-2-240-3 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in December 2009.
