Vadadora: A five-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt helped Baroda bundle out Himachal Pradesh for 119 and then reach 173 for five at stumps on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match here on Wednesday.
Bhatt responded to his skipper Pinal Shah’s call to field first as he scalped the wickets of BJ Thakkar (20), Paras Dogra (24), VA Indulkar (16), R Dhawan (0) and VS Malik (1) in his 11 overs giving away 40 runs.
Wrecked by a lethal combination of spin and seam bowling, Himachal failed to forge any partnership and kept losing wickets at regular intervals before capitulating at 119 in just 46.3 overs.
Munaf Patel also contributed, claiming three HP wickets, while Yusuf Pathan scalped two here at the Moti Bagh Stadium.
In reply, Baroda recovered from a shuddering start to take a 54-run lead with five wickets remaining in their first innings, courtesy an unbeaten 71-run knock by Kedar Devdhar.
Devdhar blasted 10 fours in his 117-ball unfinished innings to lift Baroda from 13 for three to 173 for five at stumps.
The 21-year-old stemmed the rot, adding a 108-run fourth-wicket partnership with Ambati Rayudu (57), before the latter was dismissed by Vikramjeet Malik.
At stumps, skipper Shah was giving Devdhar company at a score of 24 here.
For Himachal Pradesh, Malik and R Dhawan took two wickets apiece, while Gurvinder Singh accounted for one wicket.
Himachal Pradesh 1st innings: 119 in 46.3 overs (Gurvinder Singh 25; BA Bhatt 5/40)
Baroda 1st innings: 173 for five in 41 overs (KH Devdhar 71, A Rayudu 57; VS Malik 2/35).
