Dilshan took a blinder off his own bowling, the Lankans needed a special effort to break the 41-run partnership and Dilshan did just that! Sri Lanka now move to the semis, the Aussies and the Kiwis have been knocked out. CJ McKay c & b Dilshan 30 (58b) Over 40 || Score 226/9 Guess what! McKay and Doherty are batting comfortably at the crease. They have now added 34 runs for the last wicket and we can see some nervous faces in the Lankan dugout. Ten runs added in the last five overs, Lanka still looking for that final wicket. This partnership is now hurting Sri Lanka badly. Australia now need 28 runs from 60 balls to win the match. ==================================================================================== Over 35 || Score 216/9 The Lankans are now just one wicket away from their semi-final berth. Adam Voges fell one run short of his half-century when he shimmied down the track off Herath and hit the ball straight to Eranga. McKay and Doherty have added 24 runs so far and Australians haven’t given up yet. Australia can now not move into the semis but these two have shown some fight and as we all know, Australia would fight till the last ball. ==================================================================================== Over 25 || Score 168/8 Mitchell Johnson and Faulkner were the next two batsmen to be dismissed and Australia are now probably out of the Champions Trophy 2013. Adam Voges is fighting a lone battle, currently batting on 36 but with no support from the other end, it is to be seen what can he do. 38 runs added in the last five overs, two wickets lost. James Faulkner is the new batsman at the crease to join Adam Voges who is batting on 25. MS Wade c Dilshan b Kulasekara 31 (23b) ==================================================================================== Over 15 || Score 92/5 Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews joined the party as he bowled Mitchell Marsh who was looking to work an in swinger towards third man. Mathew Wade and Adam Voges are the two new batsmen at the crease. 21 runs scored in the last five overs, one wicket lost. Australia need a partnership, at quick pace. Maxwell who had played some good strokes was bowled by Malinga as he tried to make some room for himself on the off-side. A run-out was the last thing the Aussies needed and it was Australian skipper George Bailey who was run-out by Kulasekara. Bailey worked a low full-toss towards short fine leg and was slow in his run, Michael Clarke covered his face with his hands after that dismissal and that said it all. Adam Voges and Mithcell Marsh are the two new batsmen at the crease and the Aussies are wobbling. 30 runs scored in the last five overs, three big wickets lost. GJ Bailey run out 4 (7b) GJ Maxwell b Malinga 32 (20b) PJ Hughes c Sangakkara b Kulasekara 13 (10b) ==================================================================================== Over 5 || Score 41/1 Shane Watson came to open the innings with Phillip Hughes keeping the run-rate in mind and started off things in style by scoring a boundary off the first ball of the innings but couldn’t continue as he was bowled by Kulasekara’s in swinger while trying to work the ball at the third man area. Australia are almost there with the required run-rate but they have lost the wicket of the danger man Shane Watson. We are expecting a majot reshuffle in the batting order which Australia must do to entertain their chances of winning the match. The Sri Lankans need a win, by any margin. ==================================================================================== Over 50 || Score 252/8 Mahela Jayawardene played a fantastic knock and remained unbeaten on 84 as Sri Lanka reached a formidable score of 253 runs for the loss of eight wickets. It was a fantastic knock under pressure from the Sri Lankan veteran who once again proved his worth in big matches. Sri Lanka added 40 runs in the last five overs, most of which were scored by Mahela, and it’s an uphill task for the Aussies now. Earlier Chandimal’s cameo came to an end when he hit a ball from Johnson straight to Hughes at long-on. Kulasekara was the next batsman to be dismissed as he was run-out while stealing a second run. Herath too was run-out off the first ball of the last over when he unnecessarily went for a single when Mahela was on strike. Mahela also went past 1000 ODI runs in England. Jayawardene also became the third Lankan batsman after Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya to go past 11,000 ODI runs. Jayawardene continued to play some elegant strokes after reaching his fifty, boundaries every now and then, making the task even more difficult for the Aussies. 34 runs came in the last five overs and these two have so far added 53 runs for the sixth wicket. It was an outswinger and the bails were off but the bowler appealed to the umpire as he thought there was a chance for a caught behind, before he realised he had bowled the batsman. Dinesh Chandimal is the new batsman at the crease. 36 runs scored in the last five overs. AD Mathews b Faulkner 12 (20b) ==================================================================================== Over 35 || Score 142/4 Thirimanne’s innings finally came to an end when he pulled a wide delivery from Johnson straight to Watson at midwicket. The wicket also ended the 36-run partnership between him and Mahela. Angelo Mathews, the Lankan skipper, is the new man at the crease. 17 runs scored in the last five overs. HDRL Thirimanne c Watson b Johnson 57 (86b) ==================================================================================== Over 30 || Score 125/3 Sri Lanka are now right back in the game as now Thirmanne and Mahela have added 33 runs for the fourth wicket. It has been a crucial innings from Thirimanne and with some support from Mahela, these two can take Sri Lanka to a formidable score. Every partnership will bother the Aussies who are eyeing a big win. ==================================================================================== Over 25 || Score 99/3 Doherty got the much-needed breakthrough for Australia as he dismissed Dilshan was caught by Watson who dived to his right and grabbed a low catch with one hand. Australia needed a special effort to break the partnership and Watson’s catch was just that. That wicket also ended the 72-run partnership between Dilshan and Thirimanne. Thirimanne has looked rock solid at the crease and he scored two boundaries in the 20th over bowled by Mitchell Marsh. They have now scored unbeaten 66 runs for the third wicket and both of them are now looking to slightly accelerate the innings. ==================================================================================== Over 15 || Score 63/2 Thirimanne and Dilshan continue their good work as they have now added 43 runs for the third wicket. They aren’t taking too many chances as Lanka’s priority should be to play the 50 overs. If they succeed in doing so, they might have a total which is decent enough to seal their semis berth. Lankans might know that all they need to do is put up a fight, and score some kind of a good total to deny Australia a comprehensive victory. And that’s exactly what these two have done so far. Slowly but steadily, they are stitching a much-needed partnership. ==================================================================================== Over 5 || Score 26/2 Kushal Perera scored a boundary off the first ball of the innings but Mitchell Johnson struck a ball later as Perera was hit on the pads, Perera spoke to Dilshan about the dismissal and then left the field. Clint McKay as he often does, got another early breakthrough for his side, the big wicket of Kumar Sangakkara who drove a length ball straight to Maxwell at backward point. Lahiru Thirimanne is the new man at the crease to join Dilshan and the Lankans desperately need a partnership now. It’s a very crucial game for both Australia and Sri Lanka as the second berth for the semis in their group is still vacant. Sri Lanka just need a win to advance to the semis while the Australians need to defeat Sri Lankan by 126 runs, which is a very difficult task.
