Scotland cricket team

Scotland take on Afghanistan in the preliminary round on March 8 and then face Zimbabwe and Hong Kong. The winner of the group will progress to the main phase of the tournament.

Preston Mommsen will lead the Scots, while Kyle Coetzer has been appointed his deputy. The only new face in the team from the one that traveled to Hong Kong and Dubai is Gavin Main, the former U-19 cricketer.

The high-profile tournament in India will help fans to get a sense of the progress made by Scotland as a cricketing nation.

"It is great to be announcing an extremely strong and well balanced T20 squad for India. We have an excellent mix of youth and experience across the squad, with every player offering dynamic specific skills in this format,” head coach Grant Bradburn was quoted as saying on the ICC website with regards to playing in the WorldT20.

This is Scotland's third trip to the tournament, and their first since back-to-back appearances in the first two editions.

With an average age of 26.11, Scotland is the second youngest Associate team and fourth youngest team overall at the WorldT20.

Many believe this current side is in better position than their predecessors to cause an upset at the event.

Coetzer, Cross and Machan provide plenty of firepower to Scotland in the batting department. However, their showing at the tournament will depend majorly on the ability of their bowling attack to adjust to the conditions in India.
