The duo completed their first fifty-run stand in 12 innings as the New Zealand pacers searched for a wicket. The breakthrough was provided by spinner Jeetan Patel who had Sehwag bowled after being hit for a six and a boundary in the same over. Sehwag charged down the ground but failed to connect the bat with the ball as it went on to hit the top of off-stump ending his brisk knock of 38 runs. Next to go was Gautam Gambhir who fell in a characteristic manner while attempting to gently guide a wide delivery from Trent Boult to third man region. He end up edging the ball and Ross Taylor accepted an easy catch at first slip. Earlier, New Zealand were bowled out for 248 runs in their second essay after Zaheer Khan had Jeetan Patel (22)caught behind. An interesting third session ahead for the fans. Under grey skies, there was a cautionary note for the home team to look out for the swing but it has been a total batsman’s show this morning at Bangalore with the runs flowing thick and fast. The current run rate is over 6/over. Gambhir has been particularly aggressive today with crispy cover drives and solid backfoot punches collecting seven boundaries so far in the innings. The running between the wickets has also been good. Apart from an edge off the bat of Sehwag that flew wide of gully for a boundary, the batsmen have given no chances. Patel was adjudged caught behind off Zaheer’s bowling and the batsman was visibly unhappy with the decision as the replays showed the ball had missed the bat by quite a distance.
