South Africa won the second consecutive match against India, to seal the three-match series as well. It’s once again a shameful outing for Team India, especially by their batting line up. Indian top order once again disappointed when they came in to chase the target of 280 runs. Poor shot selection by the Indian batsmen was the major reason behind their loss in the 2nd ODI. South African opener de Kock won the Man of the Match award for his 106-run knock. ==================================================================================== Over 35.1|| Score 146 Tsotsobe clean bowled Shami to claimed his fourth wicket. And with that South Africa won the 2nd ODI by 134 runs. Mohammed Shami b Tsotsobe 8 (14b) ==================================================================================== Over 35|| Score 146/9 Jadeja’s 26 runs knock finally came to an end. In the 34th over, Jadeja tried to launched Tsotsobe over long on, but at the boundary Ab de Villiers took a well judged catch in the end. South Africa is just two wickets shy of wining the match and series. It’s a poor show by India in the ODIs. Steyn clean bowled Umesh Yadav in the next over to get his third wicket. Now South Africa is just one wicket away from another scintillating win over the top ranked India team. UT Yadav b Steyn 1 (6m 5b) RA Jadeja c de Villiers b Tsotsobe 26 (63m 34b) ==================================================================================== Over 32 || Score 139/7 Steyn didn't disappoint his skipper at all and gave him another breakthrough in the form of R Ashwin. A wide and short ball at the off stump, Ashwin tried to pull it but only managed a fine edge of his bat and wicket-keeper de Kock took another catch behind the stumps. Five runs came from the over. In the next over Tsotsobe gave just three runs. Now India need 148 runs in next 19 overs to seal the match. ==================================================================================== Over 27 || Score 120/6 Jadeja smacked Morkel for a six in the 25th over over cow corner. It was a brave shot by Jadeja on a track and situation like this. Then he played another cracking shot in the next over off McLaren to found a boundary at deep backward point. Jadeja has started slogging now, which is not at all a wise option at the moment. Five run came from the 27th over. ==================================================================================== Over 23 || Score 95/3 Raina who was playing a sensible knock from one end also got out after scoring 36 runs in 50 balls, laced with three boundaries. After a long time, India collected a boundary, when Raina swept Duminy towards fine leg in the 19th over. Seven runs came from it. India lost another wicket in the form of MS Dhoni. Dhoni tried to play it towards the third man but got an outside edge of his bat and de Kock took a smart diving catch behind the stumps. Now it seems as if a miracle can only save India. Ravindra Jadeja is the next man in for India. MS Dhoni c de Kock b Philander 19 (31b) ==================================================================================== Over 15|| Score 54/4 JP Duminy has been introduced into the attack for the very first time by the South African skipper in the 13th over. Five runs came from the 14th over bowled by Philander. Meanwhile India have also crossed the 50-run mark. Three runs came from the next over off Duminy. ==================================================================================== Over 12|| Score 43/4 Indian skipper MS Dhoni and southpaw Suresh Raina are in the middle after the fall of four Indian wickets within first ten overs. Indian top order has really disappointed with their poor shot selection. Now India need a big partnership from these two if they really want to stay alive in this match and series. ==================================================================================== Over 10|| Score 35/4 India is in deep trouble. Rahane got out. Rahane tried to chase the ball which was going away from him and only managed a fine edge of his bat and wicket-keeper took a simple catch. Five runs came from the over. RG Sharma c Amla b Tsotsobe 19 (26b) ==================================================================================== Over 5|| Score 17/2 Ajinkya Rahane is the new man in after the fall of India’s second wicket. Rahane has a good chance to prove his mettle. He should spend some time at the crease before playing his shots. In the fifth over bowled by Steyn came just a single. Unlike South African openers, Indian top order once again failed to give their team a good start. ==================================================================================== Over 4|| Score 16/2 Virat Kohli gone for a Duck. Double blow for India. Kohli tries to play the ball towards third man but only managed to get the thick outside edge off Tsotsobe and de Kock took a simple catch behind the wickets. And run came in the last ball. So five from the first over. Rohit is looking more relaxed today. ==================================================================================== Once again the South African openers – Amla and de Kock – gave a perfect start to their team when Dhoni decided to bowl first. Both the openers scored a hundred each and gave their team a perfect platform to put up a mammoth target once again while batting first, but in the last 10 to 15 overs Indian bowlers bowled really well to restrict South Africa to 280 runs. Now Indian top order has to perform well, if they want to win this game to keep the three match series alive. ==================================================================================== Over 49|| Score 280/5 Umesh Yadav gave 20 run in the last over and shifted the momentum once again towards South Africa. Duminy played a brisk knock of 59 runs in the last game to make sure that his team crossed the mark of 350 runs while batting first. Amla has now entered into nineties. From here on South Africa must be eyeing for a score around 320 plus as they have eight wickets in hand. ==================================================================================== Over 37|| Score 201/2 Double blow for South Africa. Skipper AB de Villiers came in to bat after the fall of de Kock, but Jadeja bowled a typical left arm delivery, beating de Villiers and Dhoni dislodged the stumps within a flash. India is still searching for their first breakthrough. ==================================================================================== Over 15|| Score 83/0 Both the spinners -- R Ashwin and Raina -- are in tandem for India at the moment. Rest are dot balls by Shami. ==================================================================================== Over 4 || Score 19/0 Ishant Sharma introduced in the over, conceded four runs. The 50-over match has been reduced to 49 overs-a-side match. ==================================================================================== Toss: The toss has been delayed due to a wet out-field. ==================================================================================== Durban: It’s a make or break situation for Team India in the second ODI today. A defeat at Kingsmead for the visitors means losing the three-match ODI series. After a shameful defeat of 141 runs in the first ODI, at Johannesburg, India would certainly look to win the second match not only to level the series 1-1, but also to keep the series alive. However, the green Kingsmead track must have given the Indian batsmen sleepless night on the eve of the match, as at Wanderers they failed to cope up with the pace and bounce of Dale Steyn & Co. After the huge loss in the first ODI, India have to show immense improvement in their batting and bowling departments. But it would wrong to underestimate a side that has won all the six ODI tournaments, they have played this year. The Indian players have to show character and intend if they wish to beat South Africa, otherwise it’s going to be a lopsided affair once again. Pressure would certainly be on India and if we go by their past record at Kingsmead, then figures are even more appalling. Though India have won a Test at this ground during their last tour to South Africa, in the ODIs India have never beaten the home side. In fact, the team has never even crossed the 250-run mark here. India should add Umesh Yadav in the playing eleven to generate some extra pace from the track, which might trouble the host’s robust batting line up. Whereas, Indian batsmen, especially the top order have to handle the South African speedsters better this time to achieve the herculean task of beating the Proteas. Indian team should take some positives from their arch-rivals Pakistan -- if a mediocre Pakistan team can beat the African side in the recently held ODIs series here, then why can’t the world champions and top ranked ODI side?
