Kolkata: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday announced that the current season of Indian Premier League (IPL) will be his last.
After his team Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final to lift the title for the first time, Tendulkar in a post-match interview announced that he has played his last IPL match.
“This is my last season. I`ve got to be realistic here. The journey has been fantastic and this is the icing on the cake!"
'Never too late. It's a special moment. I can't wait to get hold of the trophy. Finally, we've been able to achieve our target. A big thank you to all the supporters. I think this is the right time to stop playing this tournament. I'm 40 and have to accept the reality. I have decided that this is my last season and it has ended perfectly. All the hardwork has played off. Things don't come easily and the guys were prepared to do well. The tournament is exciting but it's tiring as well. The body clock changes and there is no time to rest. With all that, a lot of adjustments are required and it has been a fantastic outing for us this year," he said.
