New Delhi: Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels that the rotation should not be restricted to the top three batsman only and rather there should be a change in the middle-order of the team as well.
"I am for the rotation, but the way it is being done is not right. It should not be limited to the openers only," Chopra said.
"Gambhir is currently in good form, but he will probably be rested for the next game, that is not good. The rotation is being done without a specific method," said Chopra.
The Rajasthan batsman was also of the view that players like Manoj Tiwary should be given a chance, however, he said Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina deserve an extended run.
"How long he (Manoj Tiwary) is going to warm the benches?" Chopra asked.
"Rohit and Raina have earned their chances. They have been consistent performers for the team in the past. If you look at Rohit, he was man of the series in both home and away series against West Indies, so to say he is not performing will be a bit harsh. Raina too has a good contributor to the team. They should be given a long enough rope to make a comeback," he insisted.
Chopra also came in support of the Virender Sehwag, who is not having a great run of form in the ongoing ODI tri-series in Australia.
"There are only two batsmen in the history of the game to have scored a double century in the ODIs. So to say he (Sehwag) can not make the runs is unfair. He will get back to form probably he needs an extended run. He should be given four-five matches without a break and then a call should be made," said Chopra on the sidelines of an audition program for the selection of `Cricket Champs` being organised by UTV Bindass and Indraprastha All India Sports Foundation in association with Kings XI Punjab.
