London: The controversy-ravaged Pakistan team is yet again in news for all the wrong reasons as fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been accused of ball tampering by a British daily during the last ODI against England on Wednesday.

The pictures were taken in the 41st over of England’s innings in Southampton as Shoaib prepared to bowl to Paul Collingwood. They showed Akhtar running his left thumb along the ball’s seam before dropping the ball on the ground and standing on it with his spiked boot.

It is not the first time that Shoaib Akhtar has indulged in the ball tampering act as the bowler had come under the spotlight at the same Rose Bowl ground four years back for tampering with the ball.

He was seen also tampering with the ball during a Test match in Zimbabwe in late 2002.

However, on both the occasions the bowler was fined with a warning.

Earlier this year, Pakistan ODI and T20 captain Shahid Afridi was banned for two Twenty20 Internationals after pleading guilty to a ball-tampering charge during the fifth and final ODI against Australia in Perth.

In 2005, Afridi was banned for twisting his spikes and trying to change condition of pitch during a Test match in Faisalabad against England.
