It was in 2006 when a young angry looking lad hogged the limelight of all the leading Indian dailies after winning the U-19 World Cup in Malaysia. He was the captain of that victorious team and was hailed as the next big thing of Indian cricket. Rightly so he made his debut two years later against Sri Lanka at Dambulla.

The young gun started off 2011 with a solid 54 against South Africa in the testing conditions of Durban and from there on it was no looking back for the confident right-hander as he banged a brutal 100 not out against Bangladesh in the World Cup opener to compliment Virender Sehwag’s maverick innings.
He went on to score 282 runs in the successful campaign cementing his place in the world’s best team in style. Though the series was a disastrous one for India Kohli returned with rather decent figures.
Back home against the same opponent, Kohli again played confidently scoring ton and a half century before signing off a brilliant year with another good series against West Indies.
