Sydney: As players like David Warner, Ed Cowan continue to impress Australian selectors, swashbuckling all-rounder Shane Watson reckons he is uncertain about his place in the Test side after missing all the matches against India in the home series. Watson made a comeback to the side against India as a stand-in skipper in place of Michael Clarke and led Australia to a one-day victory on Sunday in Sydney. The 30-year-old cricketer missed out on series against India and New Zealand due to hamstring and calf problems and it was during this period that Warner and Cowan played some superb innings to cement a permanent place in the side. David Warner, who made his Test debut in December against New Zealand, has been very impressive as he scored unbeaten 123 runs in Australia`s unsuccessful run chase against New Zealand in Hobart. He further scored a 69-ball century against India at the WACA proving a point to the selectors over his abilities in the longer format of the game. The only thing which goes in Watson’s favour is his ability to bowl and pick wickets for Australia at crucial times. While Watson is likely to be included along with Warner and Cowan for the West Indies tour beginning from March 16, it is still not sure whether he will resume his role as an opening batsman. "I`ve loved opening the batting, there`s no doubt about that. But I want to be a part of it because it`s been very exciting to watch from afar and I really want to play a big role in that, whatever role that is," Watson told a leading cricket website. An alternative which the selectors can experiment with is to move Watson to the No. 3 spot in place of Shaun Marsh who has been extremely disappointing in the recently concluded Test series against India where he scored just 17 runs at an average of 2.83. In this case, Warner can open the innings with 29-year-old Cowan. Amid these speculations, skipper Michael Clarke said that he was eagerly waiting to see Watson back in the side and he is confident that his role in the Test side would be helpful for the team which has won five of its six home Tests this season. "I can`t wait to have him back. I have absolutely no doubt that he`ll walk straight back into our Test team,” said Clarke. Watson won the ODI and Twenty20 Player of the Year awards at Allan Border Medal night in Melbourne on Monday.
