Glasgow: Croatia coach Igor Stimac announced on Tuesday he had offered to resign following the 2-0 defeat to Scotland in their final 2014 World Cup qualifying match.
The 46-year-old -- a member of the Croatia side that reached the 1998 World Cup semi-finals -- said he felt he had little support and had therefore offered his resignation to Croatian federation president Davor Suker, another member of the 1998 team.
He said at the post match press conference in Glasgow that as of yet his offer to resign had not been accepted.
"It is a bad defeat I have to say," said Stimac.
"I offered my resignation because of the latest results of the national team (they also lost 2-1 to Belgium last Friday at home to lose any chance of winning the group).
"I need to show a moral responsibility and if there is anyone who doesn`t believe in my work in Croatia I want to give them the chance to change something now."
Croatia, who have reached the last two European Championships finals under Slaven Bilic, have still managed to finish second in the group behind Belgium and can still qualify for the finals through the play-offs in November.
The draw for those takes place next Monday.
