Karim Benzema taken into police custody over alleged Mathieu Valbuena sex tape blackmail scandal: Report

New Delhi: Real Madrid and France striker Karim Benzema has entered into a fresh trouble.

The 27-year-old was taken into police custody in relation to alleged plot to blackmail French international teammate Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape, according to reports on Wednesday.

Reports state that Benzema was arrested by the French police in Versailles.

Benzema missed Real's UEFA Champions League clash against French champions Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday due to injury.

Former France international Djibril Cisse was also arrested in the case earlier - French police had questioned Cissse and placed him in custody after an early morning raid at his home in Paris. 

Valbuena, was allegedly the subject of an exortion attempt. After Cisse's arrest in October, a prosecutor said the offence was punishable with at least five years' imprisonment.

Valbuena plays for French club Lyon in Ligue1.
