London: Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said he will urge his players to grab their ‘one chance’ to win their first Premier League trophy since 1968 by beating title rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Monday.
Mancini wants his players to take full advantage of United’s slip up against Everton, and branded the derby game as the biggest between the two Manchester clubs in 50 years.
“We have only one chance, because they [United] lost points against Everton. One chance. After 50 years, Manchester United and Manchester City are playing for the title,” a daily quoted Mancini, as saying.
Mancini reiterated United would still retain their Premier League title even if City overtakes them at the top of the table with a win on Monday, as both the teams would have to play two more games after the derby.
City seemingly has tougher fixtures against Queens Park Rangers, who are fighting to avoid relegation, and a trip to Newcastle United, who are vying for a Champions League spot.
“My opinion is always the same. I think they have more chance than us. We’re playing Newcastle. This is very, very difficult. Then we’re playing against QPR, and QPR will probably need to win their game. I think [even] if we win this game, they are favourites,” Mancini said.
