London: Under-fire Manchester United boss David Moyes has compared youngster Adnan Januzaj to English international Wayne Rooney and has urged the 18-year-old to sign a new contract with the club.
Januzaj`s future hangs in the balance as he is out of contract at the end of the season. Many top European clubs, including Barcelona, are monitoring the situation and would jump at the chance of signing him if the teenager decides to snap ties with the Manchester club.
Januzaj played a starring role in Manchester United`s win over Sunderland a fortnight ago in the Premier League. With the defending champions trailing 0-1, the youngster celebrated his first league start with two goals to turn the game around and give his team a crucial 2-1 victory.
"I want to get it done and the club do, too. I’m confident," Moyes was quoted as saying in the English media Friday when he was asked about tying Januzaj to a new 40,000 pounds a week deal.
Moyes played a key role in the development of a young Wayne Rooney at Everton and he feels that the 18-year-old is on par with English striker.
"Wayne Rooney, Charlie Nicholas, Paul McStay - Adnan would be in that category," Moyes said.
