Noel Gallagher wants Del Piero to play for Man City

London: Noel Gallagher has begged Italian footie star Alessandro Del Piero to join Manchester City over the summer.

World Cup 2006 winner Del Piero left Italian giants Juventus after 19 seasons to join Aussie side Sydney FC last month, but former Oasis star Gallagher, a long-standing pal of Del Piero, tried to get him to prefer the Etihad.

Noel called me maybe once a day to go to Manchester City and every time I say something like, “Noel, can we talk about this tomorrow?” the Sun quoted the footie star as saying.

“He’s a lovely guy and I spend a lot of time with him to see the concerts. I think the Oasis song Wonderwall maybe is one of the most beautiful songs,” he said.

Del Piero has introduced Gallagher on stage at gigs in Italy and has sorted him with match tickets.

Gallagher sat next to Del Piero’s wife when he got the winning goal in the semi-final of the 2006 World Cup against Germany.

“He got it into his head I was his lucky mascot. He invited me to the final and made me wear the same clothes I wore to the semi-final,” Gallagher said.
