London:UK army chiefs have disagreed with Olympics chiefs call asking troops to wear tracksuits during the Games, according to a senior military source. According to The Sun, Games organizers made the request so that personnel would appear less “aggressive”. Organizers suggested that thousands of troops on duty during the Games dress down because their regular uniforms were deemed ‘too intimidating’, the source said. “It’s essential that our people can recognize each other instantly if they are to provide security. Tracksuits are completely unsuitable — there isn’t a standard Army tracksuit anyway”, he added. “They’re soldiers. They should be in uniform so the public know who they are and we’ve been very hard over that,” he said. The revelation comes after the government called in extra 1,200 personnel to carry out duties. The London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games, however, denied ever making a formal suggestion for troops to wear tracksuits.
