Sheffield: India`s Aditya Mehta scored an upset win over higher-ranked England`s Matthew Selt in the third round of the Shanghai Masters Qualifiers here today.
Digging deep into his wealth of experience, Aditya, world-ranked 70, came from behind to beat Selt, world-ranked 41, 5-4 at the World Snooker Academy.
Every frame went close where both the contenders made some good breaks.
The match started with a see?saw trend where Selt took the first frame and Aditya scored in the second.
The Indian played well with close frames to go 3?2 up, potting the last few reds before the break.
Post the break, Aditya constructed a break of 50 to win the sixth frame and assert his supremacy on the green baize,
however, was in no mood to give up as the Englishman won the next two frames to make the scoreline 4-4.
the decider, Aditya needed to pot the brown ball. With a safety shot, he potted it and sealed the issue 5?4 in his favour.
about his victory, Aditya said, "This was a tough one. I did feel the pressure when I lost the seventh and eighth frame but was determined to win it by the end."
"I`m happy with the way I played. Tomorrow is the last match of the tournament wherein the last 32 shall play the `Venue Stages` at Shanghai itself. I`ve reached this stage before and this time I must get ahead at any cost," he added.
Aditya will next play England`s Mark King tomorrow.
