Jaipur: AP Gagan of Karnataka pipped Mandar A Divase of Police to clinch the gold in the 1500m Free Style event of the 64th Senior National Aquatic Championship at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium here on Saturday.
Gagan opened up a good lead with his powerful strokes to finish the race in 16:26:54 to clinch the gold, while Mandar A Divase of Police took 16:42:32 to settle for a silver.
Merwyn Chen of Railway grabbed the bronze with a time of 16:55:27 Sec.
In the Water Polo event, Railways drubbed Kerala 11-5 to clinch the gold.
Railways dominated the match from word go and riding on fine shooting by Sumit Gavhane they wrapped up the one sided match. Sumit with five and AG Vijay Kumar and Adarsh VS with two goals each were the top scorers for the railway men.The title of the women’s section was annexed by Police who prevailed 4-1 in a tight match. Purnima scored two goals for Police while Poornima Gupta and Biji Devi scored one each.
Earlier in the final of the men’s section, Bengal drubbed Maharashtra 13-8 and in women’s section Kerala beat Maharashtra 5-3 to clinch the bronze medal.
