Rana, Narsingh to lead Indian challenge at Sr Asian c'ship

Grapplers Praveen Rana and Narsingh Yadav will spearhead the Indian challenge at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship to held in Doha, Qatar from May 6-10.

New Delhi: Grapplers Praveen Rana and Narsingh Yadav will spearhead the Indian challenge at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship to held in Doha, Qatar from May 6-10.

The trails for Senior Asian Wrestling Championship and Commonwealth Wrestling Championship, scheduled for June 5-7, were held to select both men's and women's teams for both the competitions.

The selection committee of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) shortlisted the squad for both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.

The men's freestyle team for the Asian championship comprises of Rahul Aware (57kg), Sonu (61kg), Rajneesh (65kg), Somvir (86kg), Mausam Khatri (97kg) and Hitender (125kg), besides Rana (70kg) and Narsingh (74kg).

Commonwealth gold medallist Vignesh (48kg), Babita Kumari (53kg), Lalita (55kg), Geeta (58kg), Sakshi Malik (60kg), Anita Sheoran (63kg), Suman Kundu (69kg) and Anshu Tomar (75kg) form the women's freestyle team for the prestigious event.

Eight-member Indian team has been selected for Greco Roman in the Asian championship.

Each wrestler, who got the first place in his/her respective weight category during the trails, is eligible to participate in the Senior Asian Championship, while all those who are first and second place in their weight division, both will participate in the Senior Commonwealth Championship.
