SC permits HI to select team for Asian Games

The Supreme Court gave Hockey India the permission to select the team for the upcoming Asian Games.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court gave the ‘recognised’ federation, Hockey India, the permission on Friday to select the Indian team for the Asian Games to be played in Guangzhou, China next month. Earlier, the court qualified Hockey India to select teams for the Commonwealth Games as the entity was recognised by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The order was passed after Hockey India’s rival Indian Hockey Federation admitted that it was not affiliated to the International Hockey Federation (FIH).The Indian men’s hockey team, which won silver at the Commonwealth Games, will meet Hong Kong on November 15 in its opening match in the Guangzhou Asian Games. India will take on Bangladesh (November 17), Pakistan (November 20) and Japan (November 21) in its other Pool B matches.
