Wayne Rooney `named Premier League’s top Tweeter`

London: Wayne Rooney has been named the Premier League’s top tweeter, according to a new survey.
Though the 25-year-old footie ace opened a Twitter account in April 2011, he already has an impressive following of 1,567,967. Rooney has pipped his teammate Rio Ferdinand, who has 1,516,559 followers and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero who has 1,023,159. Technology consultants Lewis Communications, who looked at how Premier League clubs interacted with fans online, compiled the figures. “Rooney’s fame and knack for making headlines mean he’s a great personality to follow – but he wants to be careful about letting off steam,” Alex Clough, digital strategist at Lewis Communications, said. “Twitter gives fans a fascinating glimpse into the world of their heroes and Rooney’s huge popularity is not just down to the fact United fans idolise him but also because people are waiting for him to say or do something outrageous. We’ve seen numerous examples of players getting into hot water with their clubs and the FA because of 140-character foolishness,” he added. Bureau Report
