Australian Open, 2nd SF: Murray stuns Federer in five-setter, meets Novak in final

Melbourne: It was another Grand Slam final between the legendary Roger Federer and Britian’s Andy Murray. As expected, it ended in five sets, but surprisingly the Briton finally managed to outclass Federer in a Grand Slam tournament. AS IT HAPPENED» ALSO READ Have you put your money on Novak Djokovic? Worth it!» Andy Murray played some incredible tennis against the 17-time Grand Slam winner and defeated the 31-year-old 6-4 6-7(5) 6-3 6-7(2) 6-2 in a match that lasted for four hours and booked his ticket with top seed Novak Djokovic in the final to be played on Sunday. Murray dictated terms from the first set onwards and he won the first one in 45 minutes. And even though Roger Federer fought back to win the second set with his never-say-die spirit, it wasn’t his day as he could not produce those unplayable serves, which is his major weapon, consistently. The semi-final might have lasted for five sets, but as well all knew, Roger Federer wasn’t at his best. Murray didn’t give him any chance whatsoever to bounce back from nail-biting moments. As Federer prepared to leave the court, the crowd gave him a rousing reception which was well acknowledged by the four-time Australian Open champion. Murray this time managed to control his emotions and said “I was happy, it was a tough match. Lot of ups and downs so good to come back after losing the fourth.” Djokovic and Murray have played some fantastic tennis in the tournament so far and we hope that they have saved their best for the final. Djokovic demolished David Ferrer in the first semi-final and is seeking to become the first man to win three successive Australian Open titles in the Open era. If the 25-year-old Scot manages to defeat Djokovic in the final, he will become the first player ever to win two straight Grand Slam titles with the first two major wins of his career. Keeping Andy Murray’s form in mind, we are all set for a thrilling finale on Sunday at the Melbourne Park.
