The Nepal Army on Sunday granted the post of officers to 71 former Maoist combatants as part of a reconciliation programme to integrate the ex-rebels into armed forces.
Over 50 former Maoist combatants, including 19 women, in Nepal have received
vocational training as part of the United Nations`s programme to rehabilitate and educate the former fighters.
Nepali Congress on Wednesday claimed that Maoists were only
focussing on winning the next election through the use of
their 19,000 combatants and not showing any interest in
merging their cadres with the army.
Nepalese government on Thursday said
that it will accept only 3,000 of the 19,000-strong Maoist
combatants in various security agencies, an offer rejected by
their chief Prachanda.
