Tokyo stocks drop to lowest since 2014 on global recession fears

Japanese stocks again dropped Wednesday to their lowest level since late 2014, as fears of a global recession hammered investor confidence ahead of testimony by the head of the US central bank.

Tokyo's Nikkei stock index closes at 18-year high

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 0.28 percent, or 58.61 points, to 20,868.03, its highest finish since December 1996.
