Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's poll rally, Kashmir Valley was rocked by four terror attacks by militants on Friday from across the border who stormed an Army camp in Uri leaving 11 security personnel including a lieutenant colonel dead and killed two civilians in Tral.
In Soura, two militants are believed to be holed up inside a house. The guerrillas had attacked a police checkpost triggering a gunfight. The site of the gunbattle is about 10 km from city centre Lal Chowk. Police said the gunbattle is still on and the area has been cordoned off.
Undeterred by the threat of firing from across the border by Pakistani forces, sarpanch Mohammad Azam, along with 310 others, walked to the hypersensitive polling booth along LoC in Poonch district on Tuesday to cast his vote for "ceasefire" and "development".
Ahead of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Army on Monday said that the infiltration attempts along the LoC are on with the militants employing a "desperate" trend by pushing in IEDs and huge cache of weapons in the state.
