Patna: An earthquake of the intensity of 5.2 on the Richter Scale rocked several districts of Bihar on Thursday night.
The tremors were felt in Patna, Darbhanga, Araria, Munger, Supual and Madhubani among others. As per reports, the tremor was felt at 9:02 pm and it lasted for ten seconds.
The epicentre of the earthquake was in Nepal and contiguous areas in Bihar, Director State Meteorological Department A K Sen told PTI.
Nepal falls in seismic zone five and earthquakes have been experienced in the Himalayan country from time to time.
Darbhanga, Madhubani and other areas in the Kosi region contiguous to the country have suffered its impact in the past too, Sen said.
As of now no damage to life and property has been reported as yet.
Reports also said that the quake triggered panic among citizens in Patna and elsewhere as people ran out of their homes into open areas.
