Lucknow: Two days after his expulsion from the BSP, former Uttar Pradesh Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui was questioned by police here on Friday over his alleged use of abusive language against a state BJP leader`s wife and daughter last year.

Siddiqui was quizzed at the Hazratganj police station after he reached there in the afternoon, a police official said. Police had issued him notice to present himself for questioning on Friday.

Siddiqui left after some time, saying he had to go and offer `namaaz` (prayers). He did not speak to the waiting media.

A case was filed on July 22, 2016, against Siddiqui after he, then a BSP leader, used foul and derogatory language against Swati Singh -- wife of former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dayashankar Singh and now a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government -- and their daughter.

Siddiqui had allegedly made offensive statements against Swati Singh and her daughter after Dayashankar Singh allegedly had used derogatory language against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Chief Minister Mayawati.

Swati Singh`s mother-in-law had got the case registered against Siddiqui and other BSP leaders.

Once the most powerful leader in the BSP after Mayawati, Siddiqui was unceremoniously thrown out of the party on Wednesday.

On Thursday, he accused the BSP supremo of humiliating Muslims and seeking Rs 50 crore from him. Mayawati hit back, calling her one-time protege and confidant a "blackmailer and an extortionist".
