New Delhi: Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Tuesday failed to play a peacemaker between Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Khan had gone to Delhi to meet Mulayam and was expected hold parleys with Netaji and Shival Yadav to sort out their differences with Akhilesh and Ram Gopal Yadav.

However, Mulayam left for Lucknow without meeting Khan, who was supposed to visit Netaji's residence in the national capital.

Speaking to reporters here, Khan said he still hopes the party will be united and he will continue to make efforts to broker peace.

Azam Khan had played a peacemaker between warring Mulayam and Akhilesh on Saturday.

Notably, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's emissary and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav is scheduled to approach Election Commission to secure right over election symbol 'cycle'.

Mulayam had expelled his son Akhilesh and Ramgopal from SP for six years on Friday.

Senior SP leader and UP cabinet minister Azam Khan on Saturday had brokered peace between the warring father and son.

Thereafter, the Samajwadi Party chief revoked the expulsion of CM Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Ram Gopal.

However, the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday split down the middle with the faction headed by Akhilesh Yadav removing Mulayam Singh Yadav as party chief and appointing him in his place at a convention in which the group claimed support of the majority of legislators and district units.

The Chief Minister after being proposed as the national president said his respect for his father was more than ever, adding that he would stand against those conspiring against the party.

Meanwhile, SP leader Abu urged party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav to leave aside his anger and allow the party to contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections under the leadership of CM Akhilesh Yadav.
