An iron shuttering over an under-construction bridge has collapsed in J&K's Samba district. The iron shuttering connecting two of many pillars caved in around 4.15 pm on Sunday. At least 27 people have sustained injuries.

Rajnath Singh said that the construction of these bridges by BRO will facilitate military and civil transport in our western, northern and north-east areas. 

"This road is ready except for a 30-kilometre stretch. Now the Army can use this road. The importance of this road is that the Army can save almost 5-6 hours in transit from Manali to Leh," superintendent engineer, Commander 16 BRTF, MK Jain said. This road will also save a lot of time as the older ones took almost 12-14 hours to reach Leh from Manali, but on the new road, it will take only 6 to 7 hours. The two other roads namely Srinagar-Kargil-Leh and Manali Sarchu-Leh roads, are exposed as they are close to the International Border which makes it easy for the enemy to keep a watch on them. Further, One of the most important aspects of this road is that unlike others it can remain open almost throughout the year, whereas, the two other roads used to stay open for only 6-7 months and were usually closed from November.

The 50-metre span concrete bridge was completely washed out on July 27, 2020, when cloudburst hit the area. The bridge was successfully completed on August 16, 2020, which has led to accessing flood-affected villages and has connected Jauljibi to Munsiyari. The connectivity will bring relief to about 15,000 people in 20 villages.

A letter was written by the Jharkhand government to Lt Gen Harpal Singh, DG, BRO Roads reads, "Consent is given to BRO for recruitment of workmen from Jharkhand. The deputy commissioners of the districts will be the nodal officers for this purpose. For future recruitments in subsequent years, BRO will have to register under the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, 1979."

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday (May 26,2020) lauded the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for constructing a 440-metre long tunnel below the busy Chamba town on Rishikesh-Dharasu road Highway(NH 94) and congratulated the team for the effort.

Union Ministry of Defence on Wednesday (April 22) said that Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has constructed and opened a new permanent bridge on the river Ravi connecting Kasowal enclave in Punjab to the rest of the country. Working towards improving road connectivity to areas close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in Ladakh region, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Sunday opened a newly-constructed bridge to the people of the cold desert region in Jammu and Kashmir.

 The Defence Ministry on Sunday announced it has delegated administrative and financial powers to the Border Roads Organisation.

The Border Roads Organisation BRO will construct two tunnels through 4170-metre-high Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh.

The 300-km Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained closed for traffic for the third consecutive day as snowfall and rains lashed wide parts of Kashmir on Friday, officials said.
