LG to launch Optimus G Pro smartphone, OLED TVs

The device has already been launched in South Korea, with reportedly 500,000 units sold within 40 days of launch.

New Delhi: Electronics major LG India may introduce its much-awaited smartphone Optimus G Pro by June for around Rs 40,000 in the Indian market, where it is aiming to grow 20% this year.

“We have a plan to bring that product sometime in June and July timeframe. Price point will be around Rs 40,000. Mobile is the most important category for our future. We are focusing on this sector and we will grow,” Swoon Kwon, managing director, LG Electronics said at the LG Tech Show -- 2013.

Optimus G Pro, which runs on Android Jelly Bean, comes with a 5.5 inch full HD IPS display. Equipped with 4G LTE, the smartphone offers the largest battery capacity in its class at 3,140mAh.

It has an upgraded 13 megapixel camera on the back with LED flash and 2.1-inch front-facing cam. It has 32GB of internal storage, expandable up to 64GB.

“Technology and innovation are key factors behind LG’s success. We want to further strengthen our business with a target of 20% overall growth in 2013,” he said.

The company said that OLED TVs, considered to be the next step in the evolution of television, would be introduced in the Indian market in the second half of 2013. Though the company did not reveal the pricing, the product is available in the US for around $12,000 (Rs 65,000).

LG will also introduce an entire new range of flat panel televisions, including Jazz and Transform TV, and target 30% share in flat panel display (FPD) market.
