Mumbai: Ace filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar got a shock of his life when Amitabh Bachchan disclosed the news of his bahu Aishwarya Rai’s pregnancy on Twitter. The former Miss World, who was roped in by Madhur for his much talked about project `Heroine`, had hidden the fact that she was indeed expecting. And that she would no longer be able to continue shooting for the film!

Talking to a tabloid, Madhur spoke about what exactly happened and what made him pull down the shutters on his ambitious project.

He said, “Today I am sitting alone in my office after the plugs being pulled off. No which way would I have trampled my dream project on which I have given my sweat and blood for almost one and a half years. This was going to be my most ambitious project.”

Completely dejected, Madhur had no choice but to stall the film as he never wanted to put his actress’s well being at stake. For someone, who has always had women as his central character in his films, news of Ash’s pregnancy hurt him the most for it was not disclosed to him in all fairness.

”My inherent belief is that motherhood is pious. I salute every woman who chooses to work in this delicate state but I would never knowingly put a woman in harm`s way knowing the delicate nature of her health.”

Madhur ran into depression after he was being accused of putting his lead actress’s health at stake and expecting her to do heavy-duty scenes.

“Today, when I know the condition of my then lead actress, I shudder at the thought... what if she would have been injured; I would have suffered a major guilt throughout my life,” said Madhur.

The director feels that had his lead actress informed him about her pregnancy, he wouldn’t have expected her to continue doing the film.

“The entire event would not have taken place if at the beginning the actress had informed of an impending maternity. The truth was hidden from us. We learnt about it from news channels like the rest of the world. Filmmaking functions on faith and trust,” said a heart broken Madhur.
