Srinagar: A 24-year-old woman was killed while nine persons sustained injuries following clashes that erupted after armed forces killed two terrorists at Batmuran village of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday.

According to reports, local residents made public announcements through mosques, asking people to come out and stage protests.

The woman, Rubi Jan Alias Beauty, sustained bullet wounds in her abdomen. She was immediately rushed to nearby hospital. However, doctors declared her brought dead on arrival.

Nine more persons were injured during the clashes near the encounter site.

Earlier today, two militants, hiding in a residential house, were killed during an encounter. A third terrorist, also hiding in the house, started firing at the forces and managed to escape. AK rifles were recovered from the encounter site.

The clashes erupted between protesters and forces after a cordon-and-search-operation was launched.
