Hyderabad: The resignations of Lok Sabha members from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions over the decision to create separate Telangana are under examination but there is no timeframe for a decision, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said here on Saturday.
"They (the resignations) are under examination of my secretariat. And I would be taking a decision in due course," the Speaker said on the sidelines of a function.
Asked about the timeframe for a decision on them, Kumar said there is no rule which stipulates time limit.
"I would not be able to tell you that. There is no rule or convention by which I am bound so far as timeframe is concerned," she said.
She said she had received resignations from seven or eight MPs.
The decision to create a new state of Telangana has rocked the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. The session has witnessed several disruptions and repeated adjournments because of the demands from Seemandhra MPs for continuation of Andhra Pradesh as one state.
The Lok Sabha Speaker said she is requesting all the members to cooperate with the chair to run the House smoothly.
"I have been requesting that let the house run. I hope they will pay heed to that," she added.
Upset over Congress` decision, several MPs from the state cutting across parties have put in their papers. The members who have resigned include both ruling Congress and opposition Telugu Desam party.
