SCORECARD» I COMMENTARY» I Day 3 REPORT » ==================================================================================== England, 2nd innings: Over 133 || Score 326/6 STUMPS! Well Day 3 belonged to Ian Bell who has played a superb innings under pressure. He was supported by Broad, who survived a few close calls, including that nick, where he didn’t walk off the field. Broad and Bell have added unbeaten 108 runs for the seventh wicket. England now lead by 261 runs and Australia would want to start fresh on Day 4. Ian Bell 95* (228b) Stuart Broad 47* (122b) ==================================================================================== Over 120 || Score 301/6 Stuart Broad was first dropped by Ed Cowan at silly mid on and then the drama followed. He nicked one clearly from Agar towards slips where Clarke took the catch but somehow Aleem Dar didn’t spot that and Broad didn’t walk off. Australia couldn’t review that decision as they had no reviews left. Big-big moment in the match! ==================================================================================== Over 110 || Score 266/6 Ian Bell is playing a gem of an innings here for the hosts. He is currently batting on 66 and has been well supported by Broad as these two have stitched a 48-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Broad hasn’t played the most convincing shots, but these two have taken England beyond 200-run mark. Ian bell 66* (165b) Stuart Broad 21* (47b) ==================================================================================== Over 99 || Score 230/6 England lost the wicket of Matt Prior who hit one straight to the fielder at short midwicket. Ian Bell has played some good strokes and has reached his half-century. Stuart Broad is the new man at the crease. England now lead by 165 runs with four wickets in hand. While the Aussie bowlers would want to pick the remaining four wickets as soon as possible, Bell would want to take his side beyond that 200-run mark in the next session. Bell 56* (134b) ==================================================================================== Over 80 || Score 174/5 Ashton Agar struck once again when a well set Johnny Bairstow edged one to Haddin. Earlier, Ian Bell survived an lbw appeal against Pattinson when he was given out after which he reviewed the decision. Bell and Bairstow added 41 runs for the fifth wicket. Matt Prior is the new man in. JM Bairstow c Haddin b Agar 15 (62b) ==================================================================================== Over 72 || Score 157/4 LUNCH: This has to be Australia’s session after they dismissed the two set batsmen. England now lead by 92 runs with six wickets in hand and they would be happy with anything above 200, 250 should be excellent and Australia would not want to chase anything around 250 on this pitch which has been a graveyard for the batsmen. Bell 20* (46b) Bairstow 13* (41b) ==================================================================================== Over 65 || Score 141/4 Ashton Agar’s dream debut continued when he picked his maiden Test wicket as Alstair Cook attempted a sweep shot and the ball flew towards the slip cordon where Michael Clarke took a well judged catch jumping to his left. Australia have dominated the proceedings so far in the first session and England need a new partnership from the two new batsmen at the crease. Johhny Bairstow is the new man at the crease. ==================================================================================== Over 57 || Score 121/3 James Pattinson got the much-needed breakthrough for Australia when Kevin Pietersen was bowled minutes after he scored a half-century. That dismissal also ended the 110-run partnership between him and Alastair Cook. Ian Bell is the new man at the crease and England skipper Cook has also reached his well fought half-century. KP Pietersen b Pattinson 64 (150b) ==================================================================================== Day 2 Summary: Teenage Australia debutant Ashton Agar fell agonisingly short of becoming the first Test match No 11 to score a century as he frustrated England with a record-breaking 98 on the second day of the Ashes opener at Trent Bridgeon Thursday. It seemed England would have a commanding first innings lead as Australia collapsed to 117 for nine in reply to the Ashes-holders` first innings 215. But 19-year-old Agar went on to make the highest score by any Test No 11, surpassing Tino Best`s 95 for the West Indies against England at Edgbaston last year. Together with fellow left-hander Phil Hughes (81 not out), Agar shared a 10th wicket Test record partnership of 163 to take Australia to 280.
