Raipur: Facing flak for the Kanker rape case, Chhattisgarh Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar has landed himself in a spot by saying that crimes against women were happening as their stars were in adverse positions, a remark termed as childish and vulgar by the state Congress.

"We have no answer to this rising spate of crimes against women. Star are not in position," Kanwar told reporters here.

"Harm can come on a person if the stars are in adverse positions...We have no answer to this, only an astrologer can predict," the state Home Minister said.

Kanwar's remarks yesterday came after opposition Congress in Chhattisgarh demanded dismissal of the BJP government over the issue of the alleged rape on minor inmates of a government-run residential school for tribal girls in Kanker district, which came to light following a complaint on Saturday.

Asked about the Home Minister's remarks, Chief Minister Raman Singh today quipped, "Now, what do I say on this."

State Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel called Kanwar's comments as childish and vulgar.

A delegation of Congress leaders, led by Patel, had yesterday met Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt and demanded dismissal of the state government, saying it has failed to ensure safety of the girls living in residential schools.

In a memorandum to the Governor, the party said that everybody was shocked by the incident of rape of inmates of Tribal Girls Pre-matric Hostel in Narharpur area of Kanker.

Two persons, including a teacher, have been arrested for allegedly raping minor inmates of the government-run residential school, according to police.

Accused Mannu Ram Gota, 24, a contractual teacher, was arrested on Sunday night from a forest area of Narharpur, Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat said, adding that school watchman Deenaram had also been taken into custody in the case for sexually abusing the girls for several months.

Medical examination has confirmed rape of nine out of the 40 students, who are residing at the hostel located in Narharpur police station limits, he said. Medical tests were still underway.

The Chhattisgarh government has ordered a high-level probe into the incident and Director General of Police Ramniwas has deputed IPS officer Neetu Kamal to investigate it. Stringent action will be taken against those who will be found guilty after the probe, the DGP said.

Meanwhile, services of both the accused along with hostel warden Babita Markam have been terminated by the district collector.

Asaram puts blame on the girl, Home Minister of Chattisgarh puts blame on stars, Abu Azmi puts blame on films and freedom itself (a fundamental democratic right)....now what else is pending please? Rather than ranting this nonsense in front of media, WHAT MEASURES HAVE THEY TAKEN TO EDUCATE THE SOCIETY ABOUT THIS HEINOUS CRIME? I AM WRITING IN CAPS SO THAT THIS COMMENT IS READ CLEARLY. PLEASE DO NOT BLAME THINGS WHICH HAVE NEVER INTERFERED. RATHER THAN ALL THIS, RUN SHOWS ON TVS EDUCATING THE HEINOUS CRIME AND ITS DRASTIC EFFECTS OF THIS ON THE GIRL AND HER FAMILY AND THE PERSON WHO COMMITS THIS CRIME. PLEASE START MAKING WAYS TO MAKE A WOMAN FEEL SAFER ON THE ROADS. Woman and child abuse and trafficking are the most heinous crimes on the planet. India needs to take action by being aware of the situations around all of us. Lets try and prevent it. The four pillars of democracy should ensure that people are educated about this.

Not their starts but the filmstars.I think the present age of movies are promoting this culture of casual sex and nudity, aping the western culture,as if it is normal in our country and as if all that matters in life is falling in love or haaving sex with a friend.Drinking, smoking, adultry, live in,dating, sex among friends all this are being shown as if all day long this is all we do.Girls like to wear dresses which look sexy and show more of their skin. And then they all get together saying nobody should say anything about it

I agreed with him. This is true in most of the cases, but not all. They are the role models of the society. They can deliver a better a message to the society but unfortunately not.

INDIAN MENTALITY needs to be changed and we should use our brain instead being puppets of media. I want you all to face the truth and reality and might be media does not publish my comment. The way we Indians behave reminds me of the childhood story Aasman Gira in which animals running after the rumor that Sky is falling and its same way we people behave. We all believe half baked truth written by media and start blogging and protesting. The best example is Asaram and his comments people even without listening or knowing we blindly believe the media start writing and commenting on him.It was same with Anna when the Media publish something bad then all his supporters turn against him. There are lots of questions which media ignores as it clearly shows that these media are nothing but governed and run by the corrupt politicians. Why media does not show up the lapse of Delhi police which the friend of the victim girl mentioned on TV? Why media does not bring up cases of corrupt ruling politicians? Why media does not question when the 23 yr old victim was transfered 4000 km to Singapore in critical condition, don`t we have Hospitals in India to treat her? we all know it was a politician reason. Why media does not bring up the Heavy misuse of Dowy law like 498a which Asaram has mentioned?Whats the use of law when our entire Police system is corrupt.
